      1550.  ------.  [I. G. FARBENINDUSTRIE, A. G.]  [Removing Carbon Monoxide From Gases.]  German Patent Appl. -.  OZ 13,919, filed Jan. 14, 1943.  TOM Reel 17. item 28. frames 625-629; Meyer Transl. PC-S-II, Fischer-Tropsch. vol. 1, chap. 109. 1948. p. 10.

In removing CO from gases obtained by the gasification of brown coal, using a cuprous oxide salt solution under pressure, there are added to the solution small amounts of synthetic alcohols with more than 12 C atoms in the molecule or mixtures containing them, particularly such as are obtained by the action of CO and H2 on olefins and hydrogenation of the products, or by reduction of CO with H2 at medium pressures in the presence of catalysts of the Fe group at temp, < 250º.  The alcohols are used in the form of an aqueous emulsion, the emulsifying agent being prepared by the introduction of ethylene oxide into the alcohols themselves.
