      1544.  ------.  [I. G. FARBENINDUSTRIE, A. G.]  [Refining the Oxygenated Products of Carbon Monoxide Reduction.]  German Patent Appl. I 72,407. OZ 13,475. filed June 3, 1942 (Cl. IV d-23 b) FIAT Reel 167, frames 6,641-6,644: PB 75,733.

Mixtures of hydrocarbons and oxygenated compounds, particularly alcohols, obtained by the conversion of CO with H2 in presence of Fe catalysts, often are contaminated with Fe compounds, which become troublesome.  The trouble can be alleviated by heating the mixture with a strong acid such as HCl, H2SO, and if desired after the addition of H2O, separating the aqueous layer from the purified product. The Fe compounds go into solution in the H2O and are extracted thereby.  The color of the mixture also is improved thereby.  The Fe content of the purified product is reduced from 0.1% to not >0.005%.
