      1543.  ------.  [I. G. FARBENINDUSTRIE, A. G.]  [Reduction of Oxides of Carbon.]  French Patent 643,784, Nov. 12, 1927.  Chem. Abs., vol. 23, 1929, p. 1648.

Organic O2 compounds, alone or mixed with hydrocarbons, are obtained by reducing oxides of C under reduced, ordinary, or slightly raised pressure at a temperature <300º and using as catalyst Fe to which small quantities of alkalies or alkalin earths or their compounds are added.  Examples are given in which Fe oxide wetted with KOH or NaOH solution is reduced with H2 and a mixture of CO and H2 containing 40% of H2 is passed over it at 200º.  A brownish yellow oily liquid containing 10% of O2 and an aqueous solution having an acid reaction are obtained.
