It has been discovered that the hydrocarbon synthesis process can be performed at lower temperatures with a considerably greater yield of oxygenated products, if reduction of the Fe catalyst is carried out at a very much higher rate of throughput of H₂ per hr. A rate of >800 m.³ per m.³ of catalyst per hr. is specified.
