            Describes process for the production of oxygenated compounds and multibranched hydrocarbons by the conversion of C oxides with H₂ in presence of Fe catalysts at medium pressures and at temperatures lower than those usually considered suitable for the formation of branched hydrocarbons.  Example: A water gas (CO: H₂=1 : 0.75) is passed at 195º and 19 atm. over a catalyst consisting of Fe with Al₂O₃ and K₂O and reduced at 500º in H₂.  The product yield is 160 gm. per m.3 of converted gas, with an average alcohol content of 51 and 11% of other O-containing compounds.  The alcohol contents of the various fractions were: Up to 200º, 48%: 200º-230º, 51%: 230º-350º, 58%: >350º, 33%.
