PATENTS 1499. ------. [I. G. FARBENINDUSTRIE, A. G.] [Production of Oxygenated Compounds.] German Patent Appl. I 73,059. OZ 13,631. filed Aug. 28, 1942 (Cl. IV d-12 o). FIAT Reel 168, frames 7,209-7,216; PB 68,505: TOM Reel 36, bag 3,454. item 21; Meyer Transl. PC-S-V, Oxo, vol. 1, chap. 22. 1948, p. 54. In the production of oxygenated organic compounds by reacting CO and H2 with olefins at increased temperature and pressure in presence of catalysts with subsequent hydrogenation under increased pressure, it has been found that yields of alcohols can be increased by performing the hydrogenation in presence of a circulating stream of H2. The CO content in this cycle gas is kept as low as possible, preferably under 0.1%. The CO can be removed from the H2 cycle by catalytically converting it with H2 under pressure. Also, previous to hydrogenation, the dissolved CO is removed from the conversion products produced during the 1st step of the process. Describes other methods and gives examples of operation. |
