In preparing oxidation products from solid hydrocarbon mixtures or their solid constituents obtained by the catalytic reduction of CO with H₂, the hydrocarbon mixtures are freed from the branched-chain hydrocarbons contained therein by treatment with solvents or with condensing, polymerizing, or oxidizing agents or by sweating or pressing and then oxidized.
