PATENTS 1468. ------. [I. G. FARBENINDUSTRIE, A. G.] [Process for the Production of Oxygen-Containing Compounds.] German Patent Appl. I 75,063. OZ 14,189, filed May 19, 1943 (Cl. IV d-12 o). FIAT Reel 170, frames 8,949-8,953; PB 64,120. In carrying out the Oxo reaction, trouble has been experienced in the formation of carbonyl from the Co catalyst, the solution of this carbonyl in the products of reaction and its removal from the process thus robbing the catalyst. This phenomenon or carbonyl formation takes place whether the catalyst is in the solid fixed state, suspension, or slurry form. According to the main patent application, the reaction is performed in 2 steps, each in separate vessels and on identical catalysts. The carbonyl formed in the 1st stage is carried over to the 2d stage, becomes reconverted to the metal by action of H2, and is deposited on the catalyst carrier. After about 24 hr. the flow is reversed, and the depleted catalyst in the 1st vessel is renewed. This patent application specifies that the catalyst be in the fixed solid form.
