Process with the diagram of the apparatus and operation thereof is described for producing synthesis gas by the complete gasification of coal in a slagging generator with the help of O₂ and steam. The coal is first distilled at a low temperature in the upper part of the producer, part of the resulting gas is burned with O₂, the remainder together with steam, tar, and dust is injected into the bottom of the producer. The slag is drawn off at the bottom.
