      1411.  ------.  [I. G. FARBENINDUSTRIE, A. G.]  [Process for Improving the Products Derived From the Carbon Monoxide-Hydrogen Conversion.]  German Patent Appl. I 70,190. OZ 12,933, filed Aug. 7, 1941 (Cl. IV d-12 o).  FIAT Reel 166, frames 4,772-4,775: PB 68,677.

Mixtures of hydrocarbons and O-containing compounds, obtained by the conversion of CO with H2 particularly at medium pressures in the presence of Fe catalysts, are improved in odor by heating them with highly basic substances such as caustic soda or potash at 100º or higher, but under the reaction temperature of the alcohols in the mixtures.  By this means, not only is the odor improved, but the content of alcohol is increased.
