      1408.  ------.  [I. G. FARBENINDUSTRIE, A. G.]  [Process for Converting Carbon Monoxide With Hydrogen.]  German Patent Appl. I 67,099. OZ 12,177. filed May 31, 1940 (Cl. IV d-12 o).  APC TC 1,188: FIAT Reel 165. frames 3,505-3,510: PB 66,676: PB 25,609: Meyer Transl.  PC-S-II. Fischer-Tropsch. Vol. 7. chap. 190. 1950. p. 20.

For the synthesis of hydrocarbons from CO and H2. a Co catalyst is supported on alimina, which has been heated for 6 hr. at 850º-1,000º C. to convert it to the a form.  This form is alumina is not attacked by alkali.  Using a catalyst containing 1 part by weight of Co. 1-2 parts of a alumina and 0.1-0.15 part Zn oxide, a yiled of 135 gm. of oil per m.3 of synthesis gas is obtained.  70% of this oil b. >320º C.  If ordinary Al2O3 is used, however, the yield is only 30 gm. of oil per m.3, of which only 50% b. >320º C.
