            Process covered by German Patent Appl. I 74,553 (abs. 1400) for the preparation of waxy substances is improved by making use of all or part of the initial materials without removal of the hydrocarbons accompanying them.  Example: 1,000 parts of a mixture of hydrocarbons m. 100º obtained by the catalytic hydrogenation of CO is oxidized by air at 115º after addition of 0.15% KmnO, to an acid number of 45.  The fraction (800 parts) b. >240º under 1 mm. pressure is distilled with addition of small amounts of steam from the oxidation product.  ½ of this fraction is treated with H₂ under pressure with reduction of the acids to alcohols.  The product is esterfied with the nonhydrogenated fatty acid-containing fraction with the addition of 80 parts of toluene by heating for several hr. at 120º and driving off the toluene, which entrains the H₂O formed.  The waxy material with a yield of 792 parts has a drop point of 95º.
