To form hydrocarbons with more than 1 C atom in the molecule by catalytically reacting CO with H₂, the operation is carried out in the presence of mixtures of different catalysts, which have been prepared separately and whose individual grains contain only 1 catalyst of the same method of preparation. Thus, mixtures of Co or Ni catalysts with Fe catalysts may be used, 1 being prepared by precipitation, the other by fusion.
