Chem. Abs., vol. 33, 1939, p. 7546. Polymerization products are prepared by treating with BF3 or AlCl3, styrene or styrene admixed with isobutylene, and a liquid hydrocarbon mixture containing unsaturated constituents obtained either by cracking or dehydrogenating hydrocarbons or synthetically from CO and H2. The polymerization may be effected in solution, such as in hydrocarbons or halohydrocarbons, and may be conducted at ordinary, increased, or reduced temperature. The plastic or oily polymers may be added to hydrocarbon oils, for example, lubricating or gear oils, to improve the viscosity. |
