Residual gas from the Fischer-Tropsch process is cracked in presence of steam and/or O₂ or air at high temperatures and preferably in presence of catalysts such as Co-MgO-kieselguhr or Ni-Mg-kaolin, and the CO present is converted in the usual way with steam.
