Part of the (10-20%) is ground to a colloidal fineness and mixed in moist condition with the less finely ground material (80% passing through a sieve with 10,000-mesh per cm.²). and the mixture formed and heated. Such catalysts find use in the conversion of carbonaceous materials, as in the refining and aromatizing pressure hydrogenation of coal and the like, and in the synthesis of hydrocarbons from CO and H₂.
