British Patent 257,256, Aug, 20, 1925. Chem. Zentralb. 1927, I. p. 548: Chem. Abs., vol. 21, 1927, p. 3123. Carbonaceous materials such as coal, liguite, peat, wood, animal or vegetable matter, tars, distillation residues, mineral oils, asphalts, bitumen schist oils, or resinous substances are treated with gases containing H2 and C oxides or H2O vapor under high pressure and temperature in the presence of catalysts, capable of forming MeOH by catalytic hydrogenation of C oxides, Benzines, other liquid hydrocarbons, and MeOH and higher O-containing organic compounds are obtained. Vanadic acid, Mn oxide, U oxide, titanic acid, chromic acid, ZnO or mixtures of ZnO with the other oxides or Pb oxide may be used as catalysts. |
