I 72,249, OZ 13,426, filed May 11, 1942 (Cl. IV a-23 d). FIAT Reel 167, frames 6,474-6,476; PB 75,690. Odor of fatty acids produced by the oxidation of nonaromatic hydrocarbons and intended for the manufacture of soap is improved by treating either or both the acid and the soap therefrom with formaldehyde or with such compounds as split off formaldehyde. Example: 5,000 parts of a soap and fatty acid mixture obtained by the oxidation of a brown coal paraffin is heated to 90º-100º and stirred slowly with 100 parts of paraformaldehyde. Stirring is continued until the odor of formaldehyde is no longer noticeable. |
