G.] Hydrocarbons and Their Oxygenated Derivatives From Carbon Monoxide and Hydrogen. British Patent 478,318, Jan. 14, 1938. Chem. Abs., vol. 32, 1938, p. 4606. Hydrocarbons containing more than 2 C atoms or their liquid or solid O-containing derivatives, for example, alcohols, aldehydes, and acids, are obtained catalytically from a mixture of H2, C), and inert gas containing less H2 than CO, the inert gas, which is essentially CO2, comprising 40-90% or the mixture. Other inert gases, for example, CH4, N2, may be present. The process may be conducted at 150º-500º, preferably under increased pressure of 5-500 atm. or more. Preferred catalysts contain metals of the 8th group, particularly Fe. See also French Patent 823,302, (abs. 1199), and Italian Patent 351,714 (abs. 1528). |
