Mixtures of hydrocarbons of relatively high boiling point formed during the hydrogenation of CO are treated, if necessary after removal of paraffin, with a known agent for purifying oils (H₂SO₄ and afterward decolorizing earth) and are then subjected to a pyrogenic decomposition.
