British Patent 495,129, Nov. 8, 1938. Chem. Abs., vol. 33, 1939, p. 2777. Reactions are effected under pressure in a number of cycles connected in parallel, each cycle comprising a pump, catalyst chamber, cooler, and separator. Foreign gases are eliminated by washing with the liquefied reaction product in a tower connected in parallel with the end cycle. Make-up gas is added to only a part of the cycles at the opposite end of the system. The invention is applicable to NH3 synthesis, destructive hydrogenation, and MeOH synthesis. |
