CO and H2 are obtained by the action of CH4 or gases containing it on metal oxides capable of transformation to lower oxides, with the exclusion of oxides of metals of the Fe group.  Gives examples of the use of TiO2 and a mixture of Cr2O3 and MgO.  The lower oxides are afterward oxidized to the higher oxide and used again.
