Solution of Fe(NO₃)₃ and Cr(NO₃)₃ is obtained by mixing natural Fe₂(CO₃)₃ CrO₃, chromate, or dichromate and heating with HNO₃. The solution of nitrates is treated with alkali to form hydroxides, and these are filtered and dried.
