The mixture of O2-containing compounds and hydrocarbon oils is extracted with S dioxide in conjunction with a wash solvent insoluble in S dioxide, preferably in a liquid-liquid extraction whereby the O2-containing compounds dissolve in the S dioxide forming the extract phase, leaving the raffinate phase composed substantially of the hydrocarbons and the wash solvent. 1 literature ref., 3 foreign patents, and 5 U.
