Catalysts have a long life and yield antiknock benzenes (octane number 165-170) when a CO-rich synthesis gas is used. The medium pressure synthesis can be operated by recycling the synthesis gas and by passage of <1 l. of synthesis gas per l. of catalyst per hr.
