Paraffins of high molecular weight obtained in the synthesis of petrol by the Fischer method are subjected to oxidation at 105º-120º in presence of small quantities of permanganates and caustic alkali, soap, alkali carbonate, or other alkaline substance. Fatty acids of high molecular weight are obtained.
