In preparing fatty acids by oxidation, a suitable starting material can be prepared by hydrogenating the products from the cracking of the very high melting Fischer-Tropsch waxes. The oxidation is carried out by passing air or O₂-containing gases through the wax at 80º-120º. The reaction is exothermic and requires careful control.
