In carrying out the Fischer-Tropsch synthesis, a major portion of the product gases is recycled directly to the catalyst at the temperature of its withdrawal. The minor portion goes to a recovery system, but the tail gas is also recycled to the catalyst. The total gas recycle is less than 20 times and at least 1.5 times the vol. of fresh feed gas. The gas keeps the catalyst in motion and controls the temperature. 6 United States patents cited.
