In carrying out reactions with circulating gases, the gases are purified by being passed in rapid, cocurrent flow with a liquid absorbent, which removes in each operation only a small proportion of the undesired constituents. Specific applications are destructive hydrogenation, NH₃ synthesis, and MeOH synthesis.
