Hydrocarbon mixtures obtained in the catalyst conversion of mixtures of CO and H₂ and made up of fractions that are liquid at room temperature, boil above 250°, and comprise a substantial portion boiling density above 150° are cracked to yield unsaturated hydrocarbons. This mixture is polymerized in the presence of a catalyst.
