United States Patent 2,552,422, May 8, 1951: appl. filed May 9, 1947. Serial No. 747,125: 4 claims (Cl. 260-449.6). Catalyst for the CO-H2 reaction is prepared by combining Fe oxide with finely divided C and an alkalimetal promoter, subjecting the resulting composite to sintering in a reducing atmosphere, and then grinding the sintered material to a fluidizable particle size. The sintering reduces the tendency toward C formation and disintegration but also partly inactivates the catalyst so that it must be subjected to a long activation treatment of synthesis conditions before it reaches a degree of activity useful for practical operation. Addition of the C is found to reduce the time needed for the activation treatment. 7 United States patents and 1 foreign patent cited. |
