Describes change in procedure whereby the gas to be desulfurized is mixed with oxidants, for example. Cl, H₂O₂, O₃, and the mixture passed through activated C. The latter is not necessarily impregnated with oxidants as required in German Patent 701,758 (abs. 808). In the case, for example, the gas is mixed with Cl and the activated C is saturated with Na₂CO₃. Also the gas to be purified can be mixed with NO or NH₃, and, in this case, it is advisable to add a base to the activated C.
