Synthesis gas containing a particulate Fe catalyst is passed through the 1^st reaction zone under about 1,000º-1,250º F. and a short residence time of about 0.1-1 sec., so that substantially all of the CO is converted to CH₂ groups, and then through the 2d larger reaction zone at a temperature about 300º less than before and with a considerably longer reaction time to effect polymerization of the generated CH₂ groups to organic compounds. The catalyst passes through the 2d reaction zone as a dense fluidized mass and is then withdrawn, separated from the reaction products, and returned to the 1^st zone.
