Feldspar-Iron-Alkali Fischer-Tropsch Catalyst and Its Preparation. United States Patent 2,488,530, Nov. 22, 1949; appl. filed Feb. 10 1947. Serial No. 727,726; 11 claims (Cl. 252-459). Chem. Abs., vol. 44, 1950, p. 1672. Fe oxide is fused with a mixed silicate of Al and an alkali or alkaline earth metal. The fused mixture is ground and reduced, usually with H2, to convert the Fe oxide substantially to elemental Fe. The bulk density of the Fe catalyst is 1.8 or lower. Example; Fe wire burned in O2 was mixed with equal weight of feldspar and fused in an oxyhydrogen flame. It was ground to 65- to 100-mesh. The bulk density was 1.8. After reduction 60 cc. of catalyst was reacted with synthesis gas H2:CO=2:1 at 150 p.s.i. and 320º C., using 2,500 vol. of synthesis gas per vol. catalyst per hr. The yield was 6 cc. liquid product per hr., substantially all in gasoline range. After 54 hr. there was no wax on the catalyst and no C formation. A similar experiment using Fe wire without the feldspar yielded 4.5 cc. liquid product per hr. with some C and wax formation. 4 United States patents cited. |
