Mixture of steam and hydrocarbon vapor or CH₄ is passed at a suitable reaction temperature, which may be about 425º-980º, over a catalytic mass comprising a mixture of Ni with a powdered fused aluminosilicate containing excess alumina and a small amount of an earth oxide, such as CaO.
