Manufacture of CH₂O from CO and H₂ is carried out by the joint action of heat and a catalyst prepared from Ni as pure as possible to which is added a small proportion (up to 5% of the catalyst) of activators formed by Zn, Pb, Mn, Mg, Fe, and Si.
