      718.  FLEMING, H. W., AND FRIEDMAN, A. H.  (Phillips Petroleum Co.).  Treatment of Synthetic Gasoline, United States Patent 2,615,036, Oct. 21, 1952: appl. filed Feb. 16, 1948, Serial No. 8674: 5 claims (Cl. 260-450).

Synthetic gasoline produced by the Fischer-Tropsch process and b. 37º-205º may be improved in octane rating by separating a 1st fraction containing oxygenated organic compounds and b. >90º-95º and a 2d fraction containing oxygenated organic compounds and b. <90º-95º.  The 1st fraction is treated within the temperature range 316º-427º with bauxite to effect removal of the chemically combined O at 0-200 p. s. i. and a space velocity 1-10 liquid volume of catalyst per hr. and then mixing the 1st and 2d fractions.  The gasoline thus produced is stable, colorless, and of 70-75 ASTM clear and 80-90 Research clear octane ratings.  The original untreated gasoline was unstable and has an ASTM clear octane rating of 55-65.
