Abs., 1927, B, p. 695; Chem. Abs., vol. 21, 1927, p. 2906. By effecting reaction between oxides of C and H2 at a temperature lower than that required for production of CH4, with the particular catalyst employed, homologs of CH4c such as C2H6 and C3H8, are produced. With a catalyst of ZnO and finely divided Fe, CH4 only is obtained at 480º, but at 380º a mixture of CH4 80% and homologs 20% is obtained: whereas at 300º only 10% of CH4 is formed, together with 90% of higher hydrocarbons. Simple catalysts, except Ni and others that produce only CH4, may be also employed. Normal reduced or increased pressure may be used. See also Austrian Patent 119,038 (abs. 705). |
