      656.  ------.  [FETTERLY, L. C.]  (Shell Development Co.).  Thiourea-Hydrocarbon Complexes and Process for Preparing Same.  United States Patent 2,499,820, Mar. 7, 1950; appl. filed Feb. 21, 1947.  Serial No. 730,182; 16 claims (Cl. 260-666).  Chem. Abs., vol. 44, 1950, p. 5090.

It has been found that isoparaffins, naphthenes, iso-olefins, and cyclo-olefins readily form crystalline complexes with thiourea.  The formation of these compounds makes possible the separation, concentration, and purification of specific petroleum hydrocarbons from impurities.  A list of 164 hydrocarbons that form complexes with thiourea is presented.  Describes preparation of many thiourea-hydrocarbon complexes.
