Canadian Patent 359,414, July 28, 1936. Chem. Abs., vol. 30, 1936, p. 6391. MeOH is prepared by passing C oxides with H2 at 300º-375º under a pressure of 3,000-4,000 p. s. i. and at a space velocity of 18,000-30,000 vol. per vol. per hr. over a catalyst initially comprising essentially 26-65% ZnO, 25% CrO3, 1.5-35% CuO, and about 13% FeCr. The catalyst is contained within a vessel having inner surfaces composed of an austenitic alloy steel containing both Cr and Ni. The catalyst is active in promoting the synthesis of MeOH and produces better yields with less total hydrogenation to form hydrocarbons than other catalysts. FAATZ, A. C., JR. See abs. 168. |
