Two separate reaction zones, 1 exothermic and the other endothermic, are used. The exothermic oxidation of gaseous hydrocarbons takes place in the presence of a solid heat carrier, which contains a catalyst for the endothermic conversion of hydrocarbon gas. CO₂ carriers acquires its heat in the oxidation zone, 2,000°-2500° F., and gives it up in the production of synthesis gas, 1500°-2,000° F., then is returned to the exothermic zone. 8 United States patents cited.
