            EtOH and higher aliphatic alcohols are obtained from mixtures of H and O compounds of C in the presence of a catalyst composed of or containing Fe, Ni, or Co in the form of oxy acids of groups 2, 3, 4, or 5, or as free metals, or their compounds, in intimate association with other compounds of oxy acids.  The metals may be used in the form of borates, aluminates, zincates, silicates, phosphates, or other salts of oxy acids of P.
