Gaseous mixture containing H₂ and CO in the relative proportions of about 1 and 3 mols. Respectively, is subjected to the action of heat and pressure in the presence of a catalyst such as ZnO, Cu oxide, Cn chromate, Zn chromate or aluminate or K zincate. A temperature of about 200º-300º and a pressure of about 50-150 atm. are suitable for the reaction.
