Process is employed for the production of hydrocarbons, which involves passing a mixture of CO and steam over a catalytic mass such as a Ni catalyst, which is adapted to produce CO₂ and H₂ from the mixture and to catalyze the reduction of CO with H₂, the gas mixture first coming into contact with the catalytic mass at 400º-500º to convert part of the CO to CO₂ and then, while the steam content of the gas mixture formed at such temperature is maintained, into contact with the catalytic mass at 150º-250º.
