Patent Abstracts

Gas mixtures containing H₂ and Co are passed at raised temperature and a pressure of about 5 atm., or at normal or reduced pressure over catalysts effecting the combination of CO with H₂, except those favoring the formation of CH₄ such as Ni, Fe, or Co. The gas mixture must be free from impurities such as S and volatile Fe compounds. The products are MeOH, acetic acid, acetone, and other aliphatic or cyclic compounds such as liquid hydrocarbons, higher alcohols, acids, and ketones.
