[DREYFUS, H.] [Catalytic Production of Aliphatic Compounds, Especially Methyl Alcohol.] French Patent 617,426, Feb. 19, 1927; appl. filed June 11, 1926. Chem. Zentralb., 1927, I. p. 2685. Water gas or other gas mixtures, such as H2 and CO in proportions of 1: 1, is treated at 350°-450°preferably 200°-300°, under pressures of 200 atm., preferably 50-150 atm., in an apparatus of Cu, Al, or similar catalytic metal. Suitable catalysts are ZnO, CuO, Cu, or Zn chromate and Zn aluminate. At temperatures of 450° and less velocity of gas flow, higher alcohols and oily substances are obtained. |
