      518.  ------.  [DREYFUS, H.]  Aliphatic Dialdehydes From Olefins and Aldehydes.  United States Patent 2,434,313, Jan 13, 1948.  Chem. Abs., vol. 42, 1948, p. 2986.

Aldehydes and olefins are caused to react in the liquid phase.  At low temperature the use of acids, organic peroxides, or alkalies as catalysts is beneficial.  Formalin (I) (1 mol.) and 1.5-hexadiene less than 0.5 mol. are caused to react in a stirred autoclave at 50°-80°.  Suberaldehyde is isolated from the reaction mixture by extraction with HCCl3 or Et2O.  Butadiene and (I) react similarly to give adipaldehyde.
