Treatment of Solid Carbonaceous Materials to Produce Carbon Monoxide for the Synthesis of Organic Compounds. United States Patent 2,602,809. July 8, 1952: appl. filed July 10, 1948, Serial No. 38,314; 18 claims (Cl. 260-449). Chem. Abs., vol. 46, 1952. p. 8352 In this 4-stage process, the gasification of carbonaceous solids with the aid of metallic oxides leads to the independent production of CO and H2. In the gasification stage CO is produced by fluidization at 1,300º-1,650º F. of coal and hot Fe oxide with an O2-free gas. The reduced metal oxide is transferred to the oxidation stage where H2 is produced by fluidization with steam. In a 2d oxidizer reduced metal oxides are heated by fluidization with air. H2 and CO are transported to a reactor for synthesis of organic compounds. See abs. 1857. |
