Patent Abstracts

Hydrocarbons and their derivatives, such as C₂H₄, EtOH, CH₄, CCl₄, and CHCl₃, are prepared by mixing water gas with H₂, coming from the bicarbonation of Na₂CO₃, K₂CO₃, or CaCO₃ by means of water gas, and passing the mixture over heated catalysts having an oxidizing, dehydrating, and/or halogenating action. All the residues of the reaction from the water gas that has been used for the bicarbonation are used in the manufacture of byproducts.
