For producing hydrocarbons such as those in the gasoline range a mixture of a C oxide and H2 such as water gas is subjected to the action of a Fischer-Tropsch catalyst at about 380º-450º and under a total pressure of 10-20 atm. but in the presence of a sufficient volume of a diluting gas such as N2 to insure partial pressure of the combined reactants below 5 atm.
